BASE launches doctoral programme

Stand: 2023.02.08
BASE is launching an interdisciplinary training programme for doctoral students in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin. Ms. Fanny Böse is the first doctoral student to have started her dissertation at BASE in the scope of this programme. Her thesis will address "Innovation-economic questions for the socio-technical system of nuclear power in the context of the socio-ecological transformation".
This entails, on the one hand, an exploration into the role of nuclear waste in concepts of sustainability. On the other hand, the thesis will examine innovation processes in the field of nuclear power, which are increasingly taking place at international level and in the context of decarbonisation.
This innovative research project promotes an interdisciplinary exchange between BASE and scientific institutions such as the Technical University of Berlin. BASE will sponsor this PhD project for a period of three years.
Further educational cooperation is planned
BASE is planning further cooperation with universities to train PhD students. The idea is that BASE will finance a corresponding temporary position for a research topic and provide a workplace, while the partner institution will take over the supervision of the doctoral thesis. This is an excellent way of linking scientific research with the practical work of an authority. The projects also contribute to maintaining competence in nuclear safety and waste management in Germany.
A brief description of the research project can be found here (in German).
