    The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BfE) had invited specialists and those involved in the site selection procedure to a conference for one-and-a-half days and also opened it to interested members of the general public. The goal was to share ideas on the current state of the search for a disposal site and its challenges from the different perspectives of the various parties.

    The initial findings from the current approval procedure for providing storage for German waste from nuclear reprocessing at the storage site in Philippsburg are now available. As a result, there is no need for an environmental impact assessment for the project requested by the EnBW energy supply company. This emerged from an investigation by the licensing authority, the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BfE).

  • The search for a disposal site attracts attention from social science research Kategorie: Participation Date: 2018.06.07

    Academic findings on current sociological developments are an important prerequisite for determining opportunities for public participation in the search for a disposal site. The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BfE) has therefore launched a research project on this topic; it is designed to pool this knowledge and assess the findings for its own work.

    The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BfE) has launched two new research projects to prepare for its coming tasks in the search for a disposal site. Both the projects deal with assessment and measurement methods for above-ground exploration programmes and will be used in a later phase of the site selection procedure.

  • Germans can comment on location search in Switzerland Kategorie: Site Selection Date: 2017.11.24

    As part of the search for a repository site for radioactive waste in Switzerland, the German public can also comment on the possible areas. From 23 November 2017 to 9 March 2018, German citizens have the opportunity to participate in the public consultation procedure on the current results.

  • Brunsbüttel interim storage facility: Start of public hearing Kategorie: Interim storage facilities Date: 2017.06.12

    The public hearing within the framework of the re-licensing procedure for the Brunsbüttel interim storage facility starts on Wednesday, 14 June 2017. As licensing authority, the Federal Office for the Safety in Nuclear Waste Management (BfE) directs and moderates the meeting. Citizens who have raised objections in the public participation phase are invited to this meeting which will take place in the Elbeforum Brunsbüttel.

  • Brunsbüttel interim storage facility: Review of objections starts Kategorie: Interim storage facilities Date: 2017.03.16

    About 300 citizens have used the first step of the public participation procedure in the licensing procedure for the Brunsbüttel interim storage facility to raise objections. The major part of the objections were raised in the form of collected signatures. 18 persons have submitted their objections and criticisms individually. The objections mainly refer to safety aspects. Once it has reviewed the objections, the BfE as the licensing authority will invite to a public hearing.

  • Brunsbüttel interim storage facility: Application documents published Kategorie: Interim storage facilities Date: 2017.01.11

    The BfE takes an important procedural step in the licensing procedure for the on-site interim storage facility at the Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant. From 11 January up to and including 10 March 2017, the documents are publicly accessible in Brunsbüttel, Salzgitter, Berlin and on the internet. During this period of time, persons concerned can catch up on the plans for the approval of the interim storage facility for spent fuel elements and may raise objections at the BfE.
