  • Repatriation transport of high-level radioactive waste from reprocessing in the UK to the Isar interim storage facility approved Kategorie: Interim storage facilities Date: 2024.12.20

    A licence has been granted for the transport of high-level radioactive waste from the reprocessing of fuel elements from German nuclear power plants, which is to be taken back from the UK. Following an audit by the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management, the transport company Orano NCS GmbH has demonstrated compliance with all the necessary safety requirements.

    On December 9, 2024, BASE hosted a public information event in Waldshut about the Swiss final storage project. Around 250 interested people came to the town hall to ask questions about the current status of Switzerland's search for a final repository site

  • Return transport of high-level radioactive waste from reprocessing in France to Philippsburg approved Kategorie: Interim storage facilities Date: 2024.09.13

    A transport licence has been granted for the remaining high-level radioactive waste from the reprocessing of fuel elements from German nuclear power plants, which is to be returned from France. Following an audit by the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management, the transport company Orano NCS GmbH has demonstrated that it meets all the necessary safety requirements.
