The use of nuclear energy in Germany ended in April 2023. What remains are large quantities of radioactive waste. There is still no final repository in Germany for the particularly hazardous high-level radioactive waste.

Germany is at the start of one of the most challenging environmental projects of the coming years: the search for a final repository for highly radioactive waste. The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Disposal, as the regulatory authority responsible, has published a video on this topic in which the entire process is explained in a simple and understandable way.
