The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BfE) and several other research institutes are organising and leading a session at this year’s EGU General Assembly in Vienna to promote academic discussions about the disposal of nuclear waste at an international level. The European Geoscience Union (EGU) is the umbrella organisation for European geoscientists. About 15,000 experts are expected to attend the conference.
The interdisciplinary session is dedicated to several topics related to disposal. They not only include various geoscientific, technical and social aspects, but primarily focus on the integrity of the barriers in a geological disposal facility at a great depth.
