The public hearing within the framework of the re-licensing procedure for the Brunsbüttel interim storage facility starts on Wednesday, 14 June 2017. As licensing authority, the Federal Office for the Safety in Nuclear Waste Management (BfE) directs and moderates the meeting. Citizens who have raised objections in the public participation phase are invited to this meeting which will take place in the Elbeforum Brunsbüttel.
The objective of the hearing is to directly discuss the written annotations, comments, questions, and concerns raised in the objections with the citizens and the applicant, Kernkraftwerk Brunsbüttel GmbH & Co. oHG. After the public hearing, the BfE will examine as to whether the application for re-licensing the interim storage facility is in compliance with all requirements, in particular those that are relevant to safety, taking into account the objections.
About 300 citizens raised objections between January and March 2017. They relate especially to safety aspects. For example, citizens address the protection against terrorist attacks, earthquake and flood protection, and the radiation protection of the population and the environment.
The public hearing takes place on
Wednesday, 14 June 2017,
at the Elbeforum Brunsbüttel
Von-Humboldt-Platz 5
25541 Brunsbüttel.
The meeting starts at 3 p.m. and will continue at 10 a.m. on the following days, if necessary.
