Strong interest in nationwide information tour regarding repository search

BASE provides information about the site selection procedure on 13 dates in 11 cities. Information tour is taking a winter break and will be continued next year.

Around 3,700 people visited the BASE Infomobil, the travelling information centre of the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) during its tour through Germany between May and October 2022. Stations included Flensburg, Hanover, Berlin, Cologne, Leipzig, Bamberg and Stuttgart. The information centre welcomed citizens, representatives from politics, public authorities and various organisations and initiatives. BASE had sent out regional invitations prior to the tour, and advertised the dates locally. Many Infomobil visitors took the opportunity to talk to BASE staff about the search for a repository, to ask questions or to voice criticism.

What is next?

The information tour will continue in 2023, and preparations are already in full swing. The specific dates and stops will be published on the repository search information platform in due course. During the winter break, BASE will continue to provide comprehensive information about the process. Interested parties with a connection to a sub-area, for example, can also visit the exhibition digitally. The exhibition provides a quick overview of the repository site selection procedure. In the scope of the nationwide info tour, BASE provides information about the repository search (with a special focus on the sub-areas), and enables citizens to participate in the process. The Infomobil creates an opportunity for dialogue and offers a wide range of possibilities to engage in conversation . Individual questions can be answered on site, and various aspects of final disposal can be discussed. In addition, visitors of different age groups can get comprehensive information about the search for a repository by means of of exhibits, films and digital content.
